How should the pre-pregnancy planning process be?

A detailed blood test should be done 3 months before the start of pregnancy planning, and iron and vitamins that may be deficient should be completed, as well as rubella and hepatitis vaccines should be investigated to see if there is a need for rubella and hepatitis vaccines, if there is a disorder related to goiter, and the necessary treatments should be started.

If there is a genetically inherited familial disease, genetic counseling should be sought.

Folic acid supplementation should be started at least 1 month before conception – ideally 3 months.Folic acid is a vitamin that has been proven to protect against spina bifida anomaly in the baby.

It is also important to avoid environmental toxins during the pregnancy preparation period and to switch to an organic diet as much as possible and to a lifestyle where make-up and detergents are clean. What do we do during pregnancy follow-up?

Initially, we do a detailed blood test to screen for conditions such as blood incompatibility and the presence of germs in the blood that are harmful to the baby.We perform regular ultrasound examinations to determine the well-being of the baby. The most important of these are the ultrasound at around 6 weeks, the ultrasound at 11-14 weeks, which looks at the nuchal skin thickness and many other parameters, and the detailed ultrasound at 20-23 weeks. In the following months, the baby’s development is monitored once a month and more frequently towards the end.

Dual test, nipt test, triple test are tests that can be performed according to the patient’s condition and request. These tests give us information about the presence of a genetic anomaly such as Down syndrome in the baby.Blood count and other necessary tests are performed at certain weeks.

The sugar loading test is a test I recommend between 24-28 weeks.

How do we choose the method of delivery?

“Which way should a woman give birth?” is a very difficult and wrong question. Every birth has its own story. The way in which the pregnant woman will give birth is a decision she will take together with her doctor, taking into account all the conditions.Of course, vaginal delivery should be the preferred method first, but there should be no wishful thinking after a difficult birth.
